NAFC and Emory University Co-host a Continuing Medical Education Event
The National Association For Continence (NAFC) has teamed up with Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Urology to provide primary care providers with a unique opportunity to learn more about continence care. “Primary Care For Continence in the 21st Century” is scheduled for Friday, November 9, at the Emory Conference Center.
August 18, 2007 — This forum is designed to equip primary care providers with efficient, proven tools to more effectively assess, manage, advise and treat patients with bladder and bowel control symptoms to prioritize their needs. Physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who serve their patients chiefly in a primary care capacity, including family physicians, general medicine practitioners, geriatricians, internists specializing in women’s or men’s health, obstetricians/gynecologists are encouraged to attend.
Speakers at the forum will include primarily urologists and urogynecologists who have national reputations for their experience in the field of incontinence. These speakers include:
- Emory Clinic Associate Professor of Urology, Niall Galloway will explain how bladder and bowel control symptoms relate to other widely diagnosed health problems, such as diabetes, neurological diseases, obesity, seen in primary care;
- Professor of acute & specialty care at the University of Virginia Mikel Gray, will address anatomy/physiology and pathophysiology and types of incontinence;
- Cornell Associate Professor of Urology Alex Te will cover benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and overactive bladder in the 50+ male;
- Baylor College of Medicine Professor of Urology Rodney Appell will expand on treatment of the post-menopausal woman with mixed incontinence;
- Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Chicago Medical Center, Catherine DuBeau, will present clinical assessment for incontinence in the older adult;
- Nurse Practitioner Diane Smith will address the role of behavioral therapy and intervention;
- Professor of Nursing at Emory University, Dorothy Doughty, will focus on bowel health;
- NAFC Executive Director Nancy Muller will share feedback from patients regarding their quest for improved quality of life in relation to prevalence of SUI, OAB, and prolapse, and
- Chairman of the Department of Gynecology and Head of the Section of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida, Willy Davila, will discuss what to expect from a specialist with regard to prolapse and female stress urinary incontinence.
The training allows attending physicians and others to earn 7.25 Continuing Medical Education credits. Registration fees are $150 and include free parking, a continental breakfast, and luncheon at the Emory Conference Center. Those who register by September 1st will receive a 25% discount. Physician assistants and nurse practitioners are charged only a $100 registration fee; a 25% “early bird” discount is also applies.
