May 30, 2007 (Charleston, SC) — Membership and Fund Development Manager, Melissa Ross, presented Ms. McCorkindale with this accolade during APAOG’s general membership meeting during the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) Conference on Tuesday, May 29. The award is sponsored by Pfizer, maker of Detrol® LA prescribed for treating overactive bladder.

Since 2000, Ms. McCorkindale has been a physician assistant at Yakima Urology Associates, PLLC in the state of Washington. In conjunction with being employed by a practice group recognized by NAFC three years ago by receiving a Merit of Distinction among continence clinics throughout the nation nominated for the Continence Care Champion award, Ms. McCorkindale is a lecturer in gynecological and urological pathology in the University of Washington’s PA program. She exhibits leadership by presenting lectures about managing overactive bladder and incontinence among residents in long-term care to mid-level practitioners, nursing assistants, home healthcare workers and the general public. NAFC Executive Director, Nancy Muller, shares her appreciation for Ms. McCorkindale’s accomplishments in continence care by explaining, “[Ms. McCorkindale] must be recognized first and foremost for her significant commitment to education. She is dedicated to personal academic growth and does everything in her power to facilitate such advancements among her peers and the public.”

Ms. McCorkindale received an associate degree in physical therapy before earning a Bachelor of Science in biology at the University of Maryland. She then continued her education at the Kettering College of Medical Arts in Ohio, where she completed her AMA accredited Physician Assistant program receiving the Jessica Lange Scholarship in 1993. She remains focused on her quest to stay attuned with the latest medical advancements by attending training from The Mayo Clinic, American Urological Association (AUA), American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and numerous medical centers that focus on primary care, women’s health and other important urologic issues.
